Chemical Peels 101: What They Are, How They Work, and Who They’re For

Chemical Peels 101: What They Are, How They Work, and Who They’re For

Chemical peels have been a cornerstone of professional skincare for decades, and for good reason. Designed to resurface and rejuvenate your skin from the inside out, they deliver results that everyday skincare simply can’t. Whether you’re targeting acne, fine lines, or uneven tone, peels can be tailored to your unique skin concerns.

‘Tis the season for chemical peels. So, let's talk about them!

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a professional treatment applied to the skin to gently dissolve and remove the outer layer of dead or damaged skin cells. By creating a controlled exfoliation, chemical peels stimulate cell turnover and reveal fresh, healthy, radiant skin at the surface. This process helps improve texture, brighten tone, soften fine lines, reduce breakouts, fade hyperpigmentation, and smooth uneven texture.

Chemical peels come in varying strengths and formulas, making it easy to select the right peel for your specific skin type, goals, and sensitivity level.

Why chemical peels?

Here at Weekday Ritual, we are focused on results. We want our clients to come in with a skincare goal and leave feeling confident, refreshed, and one step closer to their best skin yet. Chemical peels are one of our most effective treatments because they can target a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne and acne scarring

  • Hyperpigmentation and melasma

  • Dull, tired skin

  • Rough or uneven texture

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Appearance of enlarged pores

  • Sun damage and discoloration

Because there are so many different types of peels—from gentle options for sensitive skin to deeper, corrective solutions—almost everyone is a great candidate.

Types of Chemical Peels We Offer at Weekday Ritual

To ensure every client receives a peel that fits their skin needs, we offer a curated selection of advanced, professional-grade peels:

Green Sea Peel

A natural, herb-based peel that stimulates skin renewal without the use of traditional acids. This peel uses marine botanicals to improve texture, reduce breakouts, and promote collagen production. It’s ideal for clients looking for a more holistic, deep-renewing treatment with long-lasting results.

Illumin Peel

A gentle yet effective chemical peel designed to brighten, smooth, and refresh the skin. This is a perfect introductory peel or maintenance treatment for achieving that healthy, radiant glow with minimal downtime.

MelaPro Plus Cold Peel

A specialized corrective peel formulated to target hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, melasma, and sun damage. This treatment helps brighten and refine the skin while delivering powerful pigment-correcting benefits—without heat or inflammation.

Circadia Peel

An exfoliating peel that combines lactic and mandelic acids to brighten, hydrate, and improve overall skin texture. This peel is great for sensitive, dehydrated, or reactive skin types looking for gentle exfoliation and a boost in radiance.

Adding these options allows us to tailor each peel to your unique skin goals, ensuring you receive the safest and most effective treatment possible.

What should you expect?

Let’s break down what a chemical peel appointment looks like!

If you’re new to peels or advanced skincare treatments, we encourage you to book a consultation with one of our estheticians. During your consult, you can ask questions, discuss your concerns, and learn about proper prep. Your esthetician will help you choose the right peel based on your skin type and goals.

Chemical peels are typically a quick service, ranging anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the peel selected. Some peels may feel “spicy,” warm, or tingly, but the sensation is temporary and manageable. We encourage you to communicate your comfort level every step of the way.

After your treatment, your esthetician will review aftercare instructions and recommend the right products to support your healing and maximize your results. We love hearing about your progress, so feel free to update us as your skin goes through the post-peel process!

Chemical peel FAQs

How soon should I book my next peel?

Depending on the peel, we’re looking at 7-14 days or even 3-4 weeks. Your service provider will give you all the details at your appointment!

When should I expect my skin to start peeling?

Every peel—and every skin type—is different. Some clients peel 2–3 days after treatment for about a week, while others experience little to no visible peeling at all. The level of peeling depends on the depth and purpose of the peel.

Are they painful?

Painful? No. Uncomfortable? Sometimes! But that's why we encourage you to be on a great home skincare regimen that's going to prep you for your peel and ensure your skin reacts the way it’s supposed to.

Am I a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Most clients are great candidates thanks to the wide range of peels we offer. If you are on any medications that affect your skin or healing, we recommend checking with your doctor before booking.
